(OTCQB: AEYE) ("AudioEye" or the "Company") today announced its Digital Accessibility Platform, or DAP, is fully aligned with requirements under the "refresh" to Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. In January 2017, the U.S. Access Board issued the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Standards and Guidelines, which served to update the existing Electronic and Information Technology Accessibility Standards under Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, as amended (29 U.S.C. § 794(d)), requires U.S. Federal Government agencies to make their electronic and information technology (EIT) accessible to people with disabilities. As of January 18, 2018, federal agencies are required to conform to the new standard.
AudioEye technology has been adopted and embraced by some of the largest and most influential agencies in the Federal Government, including the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), the Social Security Administration (SSA), the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and the Merit Systems Protection Board (MSPB). The update to DAP will provide for seamless transition to the new standard where required.
While the 508 Refresh directly impacts only those federal agencies covered under the Rehabilitation Act, many states have passed laws identical or similar to Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act or require compliance with Section 508. Key entities impacted may include schools, universities and local and state governments, which are also required to make their websites and digital content accessible in alignment with the World Wide Web Consortium's (W3C) Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0.
